Celebrate Free Comic Book Day with Ellen Forney and Simon Hanselmann

Celebrate Free Comic Book Day at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery as Ellen Forney presents her latest project, Rock Steady: Brilliant Advice From My Bipolar Life, with an exhibition and book signing this Saturday, May 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Her appearance will be preceded by Simon Hanselmann signing copies of Fantagraphics’ free sampler, World’s Greatest Cartoonists, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Rock Steady is a sequel to Forney’s widely acclaimed graphic memoir Marbles, which addressed the artist’s experience with bipolar disorder. Her highly anticipated companion volume turns the focus outward, offering a self-help guide of tips, tricks, and tools by someone who has been through it all and come through stronger for it. This body of work serves to de-stigmatize mood disorders – at once courageous, poignant, and funny. The exhibition of original drawings and prints remains on view through June 7.

The annual Free Comic Book Day promotion introduces new readers to the comix medium. Fantagraphics Books’ offering includes previously unpublished short stories by Dash Shaw, Georgia Webber, Carol Tyler, Ellen Forney, Sophie Goldstein, and more. Simon Hanselmann will sign his stunning center spread and other works from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Fantagraphics Bookstore is located at 1201 S. Vale Street in the heart of Seattle’s Georgetown art community. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206-557-4910.
