Fantagraphics Bookstore hosts the 4th annual Hot Off the Press Book Fair with special guests Jim Woodring and Berlin cartoonist Lilli Loge on Saturday, July 14 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Small press exhibitors include Czap Books, Paper Press Punch, Kilgore Books, FU Press, Short Run Micropress, Fogland Studios, Cold Cube and others with appearances by local artists Simon Hanselmann, DW, Marc Palm, Tom Van Deusen, Max Clotfelter, Rhodora Jacob, Sarah Romano Diehl, Kelly Froh, Alex Graham, Brandon Lehmann, Laura Knetzger, Hella Handa, and many more.
Jim Woodring’s latest book, Poochytown, will debut at the fair, the latest and greatest installment in the ongoing saga that began with Congress of the Animals, began again in Fran, and now begins anew. Loge created a new Tijuana Bible for the occasion. The Muse is a feminist reflection on the timeless concept of the muse. Fogland Studios will publish a limited Woodring silkscreen print, and the two artists will collaborate on a site-specific installation (which remains on view through September 5.)
The event will feature live music by composer Bill Brovold of Brooklyn, NY. Brovold has performed with pioneering experimental musicians John Zorn, Glenn Branca, and Rhys Chatham and fronted Detroit-based avant garde group Larval. Lilli Loge will also play a music set. Complimentary food and beverages will be served. Don’t miss this festive event, which coincides with the colorful Georgetown Art Attack. Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery is located at 1201 S. Vale Street, only minutes south of downtown Seattle. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206-557-4910.
