Celebrate the Short Run Comix & Arts Festival on Friday, October 30 as Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery hosts Short Run Marathon III, a pre-fest reception and art exhibition. The show includes the work of Short Run featured artists Charles Forsman, Melissa Mendes, Jim Woodring, Krish Raghav, Bruce Bickford, and special guest Sam Alden, with live music by Lisa Prank.
The third annual Short Run Marathon exhibition includes a stellar line-up of veteran and emerging artists. Revered Seattle cartoonist Jim Woodring created the arresting poster image for the festival. His work is currently on display at the Frye Art Museum is Seattle. Visionary animation artist Bruce Bickford’s latest film was recently screened at Northwest Film Forum’s “Local Sightings” festival. Charles Forsman is published by Seattle’s Fantagraphics Books. He also operates small-press Oily Comics in Hancock, MA, which publishes the work of Melissa Mendes. Krish Raghav, of Beijing, China, was the first recipient of The Dash, Short Run’s self-publishing grant. All artists as well as other Short Run exhibitors will be present. They’ll be joined by Sam Alden, debuting his new book New Construction with a slide presentation. Alden is a storyboard artist for the popular animated series Adventure Time. He’s the winner of two Ignatz Awards whose work has been included in Best American Comics. Musical entertainment will be provided by lo-fi pop punk act Lisa Prank.
Short Run enters its fifth year as one of the nation’s leading small press festivals. Dozens of artists from across the country and around the world will gather on Saturday, October 31 at Seattle Center’s Fisher Pavilion to present their hand crafted comix and zines.
