Please join us at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery for our 3rd annual Hot Off the Press Book Fair on Saturday, July 8. This year’s edition features an array of accomplished regional, national, and international artists in the fields of comix, printmaking, and graphic art. Participants will engage in interactive art activities inside and outside the bookstore from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.
The festivities will include an exhibition and book signing by bi-coastal siblings Peter and Maria Hoey of Coin-Op Books. Their postmodern approach to comix and graphic art combines elements of Art Deco, Dada, and Pop Art with current indie sensibilities in flipbooks, comix, magazines, and prints. Australian artist Simon Hanselmann will present his new collection, One More Year, with a multimedia performance and book signing. Hanselmann’s sensationally accessible creations have marked him as one the world’s most accomplished contemporary cartoonists. Seattle’s adventurous Fogland Studios will conduct a screen print demonstration. Breakdown Press from the UK joins local cooperatives and indie publishers like Push/Pull, Hey Lady, Cold Cube, Short Run, and X Intruders. Seattle’s internationally recognized comix community will be well represented at Hot Off the Press. Complimentary beverages and pizza from Sizzle Pie will be served!
This event coincides with the explosive July 8 installment of Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack featuring amazing visual and performing arts throughout the historic district. Arrive early for the colorful Amerivespa national scooter rally with food, music, and hundreds of 2-wheel wonders on the streets right outside the store. Fantagraphics Bookstore is located at 1201 S.
